Flipivo — Mode switcher for Mac

One click.
Your Mac is ready.

Switch your whole Mac between Modes — Meeting, Focus, Pomodoro or your own — from the menu bar. One click sets up apps, sound, wallpaper and sleep. Another undoes what it changed.

Free for 14 days · Mac App Store · macOS 14 or later · Asks for no permissions

Pick a mode. Then put it back.

Click Flipivo in the menu bar and pick Work, Meeting, Pomodoro or Away. Flipivo notes every change before it makes it, so clicking the mode again undoes those changes — and only those.

Click Flipivo in the menu bar, then pick a mode.

Open Flipivo’s menu and point at a mode — what it will do shows up here first.

Apps a mode opened are hidden when it ends — not quit, so nothing unsaved is lost. Hidden apps come back as you left them.

Pomodoro, built in

Click Pomodoro. Flipivo keeps time.

25 minutes of focus with distractions hidden. 5 minutes of break with your apps back. Then again, until you stop.

  • The time left sits in your menu bar
  • Slack, Mail and Messages hide while you focus
  • Your own lengths: 25/5, 50/10 or anything
  • Pause and continue — focus or break — from the menu
  • A note with the time and your own message when it’s time to switch, and a soft chime that never stops your music (or turn it off)

What a mode can do

Everything that changes when you switch tasks.

A mode is a short list of actions. Start from a preset, or save the apps you have open right now.

Open or hide apps

Open normally or in the background. Flipivo never quits your apps — hidden ones come back as you left them.

Sound

Pick the speaker and microphone, set the volume, or mute the microphone for the session.

Keep Mac awake

No sleeping display during a call, a presentation or a long build.

Wallpaper

A clean desktop for screen sharing. Changes the current desktop on each display.

Project folders

Open the folders a project needs in Finder, along with its apps.

Hide everything

Hide every app or all but one for a clean screen — for screen sharing or stepping away.

End automatically

After 15 minutes to 3 hours, or as Pomodoro rounds. The time left shows in the menu bar.

App State Snapshots

Save which apps are running, hidden and in front, and reopen them later. Windows, documents, tabs and Spaces aren’t saved.

Turn on automatically

Modes that start themselves.

Pick what to watch for. The mode starts when it happens and ends when it stops — no clicks.

Restore

Undo what a mode changed.

Flipivo writes down each change before it makes it, and Restore walks that list backwards. It undoes Flipivo’s own changes — it doesn’t rebuild your whole desktop.

Journal first

Each change is recorded before it’s made. If a step can’t be undone — a device was unplugged, a file was moved — Restore says so instead of skipping it quietly.

Kept on disk

The journal is saved as it’s written, so if Flipivo or your Mac stops unexpectedly, Restore is still there the next time Flipivo opens.

Doesn’t close your work

Apps a mode opened are hidden, not quit, so nothing unsaved in them is lost. Apps you open or close yourself are left alone.

Restore puts back

  • Volume, speaker, microphone and microphone mute
  • Wallpaper and keep-awake
  • Apps the mode hid — shown again
  • Apps the mode opened — hidden, not quit

Restore doesn’t

  • Move windows or restore their sizes
  • Reopen documents or browser tabs — that’s up to each app
  • Rearrange Spaces or full-screen apps
  • Touch apps you opened or closed yourself during the mode
  • Keep settings you changed during the mode — volume and sound go back to before it
Use cases

One click for the moments that repeat.

Six everyday moments, played out on a Mac. Each one is a mode you set up once — Flipivo switches into it, and puts things back when you’re done.

Private by design

Nothing to grant. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Flipivo uses only what macOS gives every app — it never asks to control your Mac, record your screen or read your files. Your modes and journal stay on your Mac; purchases and updates go through the Mac App Store.

FAQ

Questions

How does Pomodoro work?

Click Pomodoro in the menu. For 25 minutes your distractions are hidden and the Mac stays awake; then everything comes back for a 5-minute break, and it starts again. A small note and a soft chime tell you when each part begins — the chime plays over your music without pausing it, and Sound in the editor turns it off. The time left is in the menu bar. Change the minutes in the editor, or click Pomodoro again to stop.

How is Flipivo different from Apple’s Focus?

Focus filters notifications. Flipivo changes what’s on your Mac — which apps are open or hidden, sound devices and volume, wallpaper, sleep — and puts it back afterwards. It can also start on its own when Zoom opens or a display is plugged in. Use both: Focus for notifications, Flipivo for the rest.

Does it really need no permissions?

Yes — no Accessibility, Screen Recording, Automation, Full Disk Access or Input Monitoring. It runs in Apple’s App Sandbox and uses only public macOS features. Wallpaper changes the current desktop on each display; other Spaces keep theirs.

What exactly does Restore put back?

Only what the mode changed. Volume, sound devices, microphone mute, wallpaper and keep-awake go back to how they were before the mode — also if you changed them yourself in between. Apps the mode hid are shown again; apps it opened are hidden — Flipivo never quits your apps. Flipivo doesn’t move windows, reopen documents or tabs, or rearrange Spaces — whether an app reopens its windows is up to that app. If a step can’t be undone, for example because a device was unplugged, Restore lists it.

Where do I get Flipivo?

On the Mac App Store. It’s a free download with a 14-day trial; unlocking is a one-time in-app purchase of $19.99, handled by Apple.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later — Apple silicon and Intel.

What happens when the 14-day trial ends?

Everything works during the trial. After 14 days, turning on modes and snapshots pause until you unlock Flipivo with the one-time purchase — your modes are kept, scheduled and automatic modes wait, and Restore keeps working, so your Mac can always be put back.

Are updates free?

Yes. Updates arrive through the Mac App Store at no extra cost — no subscription, nothing expires. Buy once and use it on every Mac signed in to your Apple Account.

How do I uninstall it? Does it leave anything behind?

Restore if a mode is on, turn off “Open Flipivo at login” in Settings, then quit Flipivo and move it to the Trash. Your modes, app state snapshots and journal live in Flipivo’s sandbox container (~/Library/Containers/app.byquan.flipivo) — delete that folder for a clean removal. Flipivo installs no helpers or background services.
